Antonio Hall Named to Lead Solon Comets Athletics and Football Programs

Coach Antonio Hall

Solon City Schools is excited to announce the appointment of Antonio Hall as athletic director and head varsity football coach. Coach Hall brings an exceptional combination of championship-level coaching experience and proven athletic administration expertise to lead the Solon Comets football program and support all Comet athletics.

Coach Hall’s appointment coincides with the announcement by Solon Athletic Director Jim McQuaide that he will be retiring in July 2027.

Coach Hall joins Solon from the Canton City Schools, where he served in a variety of leadership roles in athletic administration, coaching, player development and community engagement. He led the Canton McKinley High School Bulldogs as athletic director and head football coach, leading one of the nation's top 10 winningest football programs.

Under his leadership as varsity football coach, McKinley captured three Federal League Championships and earned seven playoff victories. He coached at McKinley, St. Thomas Aquinas and Glen Oak, all well regarded athletic programs. Beyond his success on the field, Coach Hall elevated his student-athletes academically, while placing 20 players in Division I and Division II college programs.

"Antonio Hall is exactly the leader our entire athletic department and our football program, specifically, needs," said Solon Superintendent Fred Bolden. "His winning pedigree speaks for itself, but what truly sets Coach Hall apart is his ability to build a powerful and engaging —one rooted in accountability, interconnectedness and excellence."

"He doesn't just develop great athletes; he develops great young people," said Mr. Bolden. "We are incredibly fortunate to have someone of his caliber join the Comet community."

Coach Hall's extensive athletic administration background includes managing comprehensive athletic programming from youth through high school levels, developing budgets and revenue streams and building community partnerships. His administrative acumen, combined with his coaching success, makes him uniquely qualified to eventually succeed Jim McQuaide

“In all my years in education and athletics, I've rarely encountered someone with Antonio's combination of competitive fire, administrative skill, and genuine care for young people," said Mr. McQuaide. "He is not only an outstanding football coach—he is a champion for all sports and all student-athletes. Over the next year and a half, Antonio and I will ensure a seamless transition that maintains our tradition of excellence across every Comet team. This thoughtful succession plan is rare in high school athletics, and it positions Solon for sustained success."

The transition plan provides Solon with a significant advantage: Coach Hall will shadow Mr. McQuaide until his retirement, ensuring continuity of leadership while allowing Coach Hall to maintain full focus on building the football program and coaching in season. This strategic approach means the football team gains an elite coach immediately, while the athletic department prepares for long-term success under proven leadership. During this time, Coaches McQuaide and Hall will provide more leadership opportunities for JD Dunn, the Comets’ training and fitness coach who also serves as the assistant to the Athletic Director.

Coach Hall's philosophy centers on five core principles: competing to be the best, unwavering hard work, taking ownership, mental and physical toughness, and continuous improvement. He builds programs on a foundation of family—creating a culture where accountability, trust, and interdependence drive success both on and off the field.

"The culture of excellence here in Solon aligns perfectly with my vision," said Coach Hall. "This is about more than winning football games—though we will compete at the highest level. This is about developing young men who understand the power of brotherhood, who hold each other accountable, and who carry the values they learn here into every aspect of their lives. I'm honored to join the Comet family and to support all our student-athletes and programs."

Coach Hall brings field experience and knowledge to his coaching. His decorated football playing career includes starting 45 consecutive games at the University of Kentucky in the SEC, playing in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, and six seasons in the Canadian Football League. As a high school All-American at Canton McKinley, he was part of back-to-back Ohio Division I State Championships in 1997 and 1998.

Beyond athletics, Coach Hall has demonstrated deep commitment to community leadership, serving as a founding board member of the National High School Football Hall of Fame and involvement with multiple community organizations. He is currently completing his Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University.

Coach Hall will meet with players this week, and training will begin immediately.

"This is a transformative moment for Comet athletics," Mr. Bolden concluded. "We have secured an exceptional athletic administrator who will serve all our teams with passion and intensity as well as a football coach with a winning tradition. This is a win-win for our athletic department, football program, our youth programs and families, and most importantly, our student-athletes."
